Quick tip for those who post art in Twitter:

You can force Twitter to post the “raw” quality of your pics by adding one (1) pixel of transparency in the image.

Twitter uses some algorithm to compress images into .jpg, but it cannot do that if there’s transparency involved in the image, forcing it to be .png in its full quality.
Literally one singular pixel ANYWHERE counts for this, it can be on a corner if you don’t want it to be bothersome.

Figured some folks might be interested in this, considering Tumblr no longer supports the _raw trick.

For the sake of example instead of hearsay, I’ve posted a comparison in my Twitter here, but will also explain here. All images are 2000x2000px versions of my logo you can see on the top left of this post:

Here’s the original image without a background, in its original form.
Notice the .png on the filename title.

Here’s the image with a white background.
You can see Twitter turned it into a .jpg and youcan see compression artifacts surrounding it.

Here’s the image with a white background, but one pixel edged off.
Notice the .png back on the filename and the retaining of quality from the first picture compared to the compression from the second.

All it took was a simple thing:

Nothing else, nothing more. It retains the original quality as you posted it, isn’t very bothersome and can be easily filled up if someone finds it.

Since Tumblr removed the _raw image trick from availability, this is a good way to share high quality, high resolution pictures again with the world.

these are some old glassdoor reviews about tumblr from a long while ago. these problems were lonnnnnnnnnng coming.

it shows. Like…you didn’t even have to show me these. All the issues tumblr keeps having…all the updates that are touted as a great new feature, but the users hate it AND the patch/update completely fucks up whole other aspects of the site…that’s what happens when an IT shop has bad management.

Me personally, I spent well over six years here. I made incredible friends, I discovered awesome artists, participated in the golden era of MLP ask blogs. Basically almost every day of the last six years spent on tumblr. I really really loved it here and I am almost shedding a tear writing this, can’t believe that it has come to that.

So I don’t care what’s the reasoning they give for this move, what’s their grand idea of “fixing” the site. Apparently the staff is too incompetent to do that without getting rid of people who have done no wrong. Basically, Tumblr confirmed too incompetant to filter out porn bots so their solution is to just ban porn altogether. And there is nothing to justify that, no matter what the hell is going on this shouldn’t affect the regular users. But apparently it does, so fuck that. Kiss my ass, tumblr.

And to add insult to an injury, the “artistic” nudity is fine, but porn isn’t fine. But whose arbitrary judgement will throw the artists into one basket or the other?  Where is that blurry line and who draws that line between “art” and “porn”? This pisses me off so much.
