All digital art that is going to be printed should be set to at least 300ppi, or pixels per inch. That’s the MINIMUM for a hi-res, quality art print. These numbers are 150ppi, which is half the minimum. So while you can print out 150ppi images at these sizes, there’s a good chance that there’ll be blurriness and/or pixelation and definitely a decrease in quality.
So for a full-res, quality art print at 4″ x 6″, it’s best to enter it in inches and set the ppi (sometimes also called dpi, which stands for dots per inch and is the printer’s abbreviation for the same thing) to 300. But if your art program only lets you enter pixels, that would be 1200 x 1800 pixels, which is calculated simply by multiplying 4 by 300 and 6 by 300. If you look at the above numbers, you’ll see that the numbers given for a 4″ x 6″ print are half of that.
